  I was told that the cardboard covers, along with the phenolic stepper mounting plate, were a "War Time" thing. Don't know anything else about that--
  The Panic Box function was to keep the motor running, and cause the phono to play every slot in succession, and can be duplicated, without damage to the phono, by rubber banding the scan add solenoid up, and shorting the "trip" link test point to ground.

OK I have another question. The stepper and credit
unit covers on early 100's-- When were the cardboard
ones used, and when did they switch to metal? I would
have guessed that all A, B, and C machines had paper
ones, but I have seen enough machines in my time to
now be confused by that, as I have encountered A's and
B's with metal covers, that for all intents and
purposes I'd have no reason to believe they were ever
changed.

Oh, don't worry, I have a lot more questions, I am
just throwing them at you slowly:) By the way, I
enjoyed your commentary in AJ where you were talking
about the Panic Box kit with the marketer. What did
that thing do technically? I suppose if the credit or
keyboard failed, it just sequentially played hit
sides?... or did it play both sides? You mentioned
doing "the same thing with a screwdriver and a rubber
band". I just wondered, Ron, were you kinda joking or
just what CAN you do with a rubber band and a
screwdriver to effect the same result? For the life of
me I couldn't think of a thing.
