Ian posed a question about the SMC1 turntable decoration.
Here are my observations based on some auction photos, my machine, and a
spare mech I just purchased.
The turntable is painted a flat black with several chrome discs attached to
the outer edge. There two sets of these chrome discs one set is smaller than
the other (small discs on the record end, large discs (dime sized) toward
the gear end). These discs are sunken into the turntable also.
The light that reflects off the turntable is produced from the lower title
strip bulb (slot on the bottom side of the bulb housing).
There is one cable shield that dresses up the area above the back of the
record rack and blocks most of the light from the upper title strip bulb.
There is also a chrome piece that rides on the mech and straddles the record
and turntable, this adds some reflection (I have to make one for my machine
as it's missing).
This weekend I got my machine fired up for the first time since I purchased
it. I went through the mech and it worked properly the first time I tried it.
The computer controlled Seeburg mech is fun to watch. It is neat to see the
turn table reverse after a record is rejected. Also it is odd to see it only
scan once and stop at the end of the rack (instead of scan twice).
One thing that is not touted about the SMC juke is it really does have a
visible mech. Granted you have to look a little harder to see it but you get
a nice top down view or a front view (if you kneel in front of the machine.
It's fun to watch too!
