You chimed in about your broken cartridge just as I was clicking send...lol
Glad to hear you have been able to keep those jukes up and running. You have
some good ones there. I guess I was lucky on my 222. That sucker just keeps
playing reliably. The only problems I had wrere in the 1st couple of months after
I got it. Following Wes' suggestion of grounding the tormat plate cured all
selection issues and a few resistors replaced in the amp that the original
rebuilder did not replace and it's just been going and going like the energizer
bunny. It gets the heck played out of it.Not every day but several hours every
week.I suppose it's time to change the needles. It has n.o.s original saphires
in it and I have several sets.I got a hold of 1 pair of n.o.s. diamonds I am
saving for last.I haven't heard a replacement match the sound of these
originals. The 222 amp seems the most sensitive to it.Not as much difference on an LPC
series amp. I want to clean up the mech sometime and get some new rubber parts
in there. But it just works so great I loathe to touch it.I have a new grill
diffuser but if I take the front apart the chrome is going to be sent off and
I'll redo the cabinet. It gets played much more than the Rockola 490-1 but the
490-1 does get played. I played it an entire day in remembrance of Rockola
Charlie last month.I think I played every record in it (200 selections) and more
than 1 time on some of them.

The 2510 gets played sometimes. It's awaiting cosmetic restoration but at
least it's working and playing. It's the shop jukebox.I have been very busy
rebuilding mechs.I have rebuilt the mechanism for 2 LPC480s,2PFEA1Us,an SS160 and now
my finally my Seeburg C mechanism. It was such a rusty corroded mess that I
have employed 2 mechanisms for parts to clean it up.A very clean Library mech
from about the same time period as the C(all slotted screws and no
chromated(goldish colored) parts and sadly the B mech gave up some parts. The B may end up
a parts machine after all.The mech is all apart now...lol.The C and library
unit record ramp was rusty and the librarys was bent. The Library mech had a
clean but slightly pitted chrome turntable.I'll use it for now until my original
gets plated just to get it running. It does look very shiny.I found the B
turntable different. That sucker had perfect chrome too.It takes the old type rubber
bushings. the holes are different (It won't take the replacements)and the
places where the screws go are indented and it takes different screws. I have to
repaint the library mech tonearm and use it. The damping is not only shot on
the C arm but it looks damaged. The pin going through the center of the damper
is bent.Every piece that is being put on is clean as a whistle looking nearly
new.I'm doing the R next.I got a donor mech from Bill Butterfield as it had
rusty parts too.Last but not least will be the 222.The 222 has no rusty
parts, just dirty and brown from cigarette tar. Some mech parts are shared with later
machines and one of my originals won't clean up I'm going to swap with one of
the 60s machines before I let them go.I figure once the mechanisms are done it
will motivate me to do the rest.Electronics and when they are working the
cabinets.Did i say I was picky?...lol.I want my personal keeper machines to look
like one of those machines you see the restorers and resellers advertise. They
always show you how clean the guts are as well as the outside of the
jukebox.(kinda like cars at shows.Ever see one at a show that the engine was dirty and
had rusty parts on it ?)Rusty parts won't clean up to look like that without
replating. No mech parts were swapped for the 60s boxes unless one was damaged
or broken.I just cleaned up what was there as well as possible and made them
work.Nobody sees those mechs in normal operation and I am going to sell them.
Most people won't be as picky as me and the buyer of this type of juke will
probably put them in a rec or game room and they just don't bring very much money
these days.So it ain't worth the effort or cost to make the mechs look new.Or
the cosmetics perfect as in an earlier desirable 50s machine.I guess that's
why Kyle likes the later boxes. They are cheap and plentiful and you don't have
to redo everything to get a decent box.The sides are the tougher formica, very
little if any chrome,no one sees the mech and the Seeburgs at least are very
reliable.I'm not that picky about my Rockola. It has some cosmetic defects but
it works flawlessly.
Sorry this is so long.I'm just rambing about my favorite possesions(jukeboxes)
