OK, I've tried oiling the output shaft, but it doesn't make a
difference.  I've wanted to oil the input shaft, which if I
remember on these type of older motors does ride in a bearing
extending through the gear case, but the motor is buried so
deep in the cabinet that it looks like a weekend project.
The noise mine makes is not very loud.  You can hear it when
you walk into the room, but it's not particularly obtrusive.
I've heard a lot of these motors make similar noises in the past.
In fact, I have a rotating color filter wheel for an aluminum
Christmas tree that makes the identical sound.
