  Is there a "squelch" circuit in that thing? Are you sure that the mute/play switch is good, and operating as it should? Ron Rich

I immediately turned it back on, and the volume was almost normal for a second or two before cutting back to the previous mentioned volume level. This leads me to believe the problem may be in the AVC circuit. I'll look at the manual when I get home and maybe I can shed some more light on this. Any other comments/ideas? (I still believe the amp should be rebuilt, but I'm not sure the lady wants to get that involved).
