Good comment Gary. Those Buddy Holly EP's sound great.
I've almost given up on garage sales (or car boots as you call them). It seems most people have gotten rid of their records, and if they do have any left it's all Tom Jones and Englebert LP's.
You're right about all the good 78's in a pile being broken or missing pieces. Murphy's Law I guess (or someone picked out all the good stuff before you got there!). It's amazing though how many records Bing Crosby and Guy Lombardo made. Maybe in 200 years they'll be worth something....

Interesting story JC. My AMI B was rescued from being thrown in the skip (dumpster) many years ago and is still going strong. I have also had some good record finds at car boot sales and charity shops. Although I have noticed over the last few years sources for good 50s and 60s rock n roll records are starting to dry up. Car boot sales are fine, but normally if I recognise a record dealer I might as well forget about finding anything decent. My best find last year was 7 Buddy Holly EPs in near mint condition for £1 each (50 cents US). Some of the charity shops where I live are starting to specialise in music but are charging too much for records that are generally in poor condition.
I guess more and more stuff is going on ebay these days too. Thats where I get most of my records from now. Still, there is no match for the buzz of finding a rare record in amongst a pile of junk. I have also had some success by advertising in the local papers with a records wanted advert. Has anyone noticed that when looking through piles and piles of 78s, its always the one you want that has the crack or big chunk out of it. Its happened to me so many times.
Gary
