One of my older Seeburg manuals has a fascinating dissertation on
how coin acceptor units work. It is a combination of eddy-currents
induced into the coin by passing first through a magnetic field which
slows the passage down the slot just the right amount, then the
bounce off of a ramp and landing at just the right place to
slide down the acceptance slot and past the coin switch. Those
guys were sure smart...they had to be since crooks kept getting
smarter (or luckier with persistence) too!
