[Jukebox-list] Latch solenoid - free play

The recent thread regarding buzzing latch solenoids and the potential for them burning up has me concerned about my Rowe-Ami TI-1.
This box is set up for free play by virtue of the latch solenoid ALWAYS being energized. I've heard that this is an easy way to set up free play but not the optimal solution. BTW, the solenoid sometimes buzzes rather loudly and at other times it hums on the brink of buzzing. (Please, no puns about my Rowe humming "On the Brink of Buzzing"!! It's not a real song ;-)
So, the question I have is: what's the best solution? Is there an after-market add-on one can purchase or is there a kludge that one can engineer? Anyone else out there in Juke-List-Land have an early 70's Rowe set up for free play, but not via the latch solenoid?
Thanks in advance for answers and advice.
Bob - Chicago
