[Jukebox-list] Seeburg "Home Stereo's"

Hi All,
I just learned something "new to me", about the Seeburg Home Stereos--ALL models. It's a "no brain-er"--but then, what can I say.
It is: If the small portion of (open cell) sponge rubber, that was attached to the mechanism cover should fall off, or disintegrate, there is a VERY good chance that the phono will break the needle on that side of the tonearm.
I discovered this the "hard way". I was rebuilding one for my customer--got it all done and wanted to try it out, so, I put in a record, and played it--without putting the mech cover back on. Well, when it started on the 2nd side, of the first record, I discovered that the stylii was missing the "point". So, I put on a new set of stylii. It played fine. I then put the cover back on, not noticing that the sponge rubber was missing. I then put a couple more of my favorite LP's in it and let it play as "background music", while I worked on something else. After playing the next record's second side, I heard a "thump", or "click", that did not sound quite right, but it did not register--until it started playing the 2nd side of the next record--sure enough, the needle had once again been broken off--duh !!!
That sponge rubber was 1/4 in thick, and 1/2 in wide, and about 1/2 in long. It is positioned right under the area of the cover where the bottom of the cartridge/tonearm will hit the cover, as the tone arm shifts. I have used a "close cell" type of "weather-stripping" there, many times before--just did not occur to me this time, as someone had removed all of the "old stuff".
