[Jukebox-list] Rock-ola princess 1493 autospeed

The "Automix" as I think Rock-Ola called it, was an option on the Princess.
I remember being told that about 20% of them were supplied with it
originally. As you have discovered, there is no mention of it in the manual.
Under the turntable you should find a mechanism for raising and lowering the
idler wheel, depending if the turntable large hole prongs have been pushed
down or not. The idler wheel will then move to the other diameter of the
stepped motor shaft. As these mechanisms were rarely used to play 33's you
may find that it's just all gummed up and needs a bit of lubrication
/cleaning. You could also find that parts of the mechanism have been
removed, so that it should play both hole sizes as 45. Over here in the UK
most 45's have a small hole so a machine modified in this way avoids the
need to cut large holes in your valuable records!

Let me know if you need photos of what it should look like - I have one in
the workshop I could photograph.

Adrian.

Subject: [Jukebox-list] Rock-ola princess 1493 autospeed

Hi, I have a rock-ola 1493 that i'm pretty sure plays both 45 and 33 rpm
records. The 45's play fine but when I try to play a 33 rpm record, the
gripper picks up the record, places it on the turntable then just stops
dead. If I push the reject button, it will pick up the record, put it back
and the turntable will start to turn again and scan to the next 45 I choose
with no problems. I have the manual but it does not mention anything about
an autospeed unit. Is there a manual or book that I could purchase that
would help me to troubleshoot this problem? Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Doug
