Rowe amps are left hot, so you don't get the
  thump upon power up. Another reason, if you
  used the amp for others things like BGM, or
  paging. You can turn the juke off at the rear 
  switch, and leave the amp powered. I would
  plug the amp in the 'switched' outlet in a 
  home situation, and turn the juke off with
  the rear switch. I would do what Ron Rich 
  says he does. If you are trouble shooting
  a Rowe sound system, with everything connected properly(speakers, volume control,
  input signal, mute circuit open) when you apply
  power you should get the 'pop'. If you don't
  it could be 'no AC power'. The amp outlet of
  the power supply is literally and physically the
  first thing in the line. If you pull the power
  cord too hard, pulling the strain relief out, you pull the
  terminals off the back of the outlet. I have seen this more than once.
