I would definitely give the Simple Green a try.  That had the best 
results with the petrified gasket material.  Is this a Seeburg?  I had 
to remove this stuff on Seeburg R.  Some of it got on the gold aluminum 
dome lining.  I definitely wanted to be careful not to strip the 
anodizing or the gold die.  I hope you find something that works out 
well for removing that petrified gunk.
