[Jukebox-list] electrolytic caps

Jason,
There never was/is any "standard" for markings on any type of cap.
Some of the makers used a + stamp on the end of the cap, others marked them with a + on the side of the cap. Most of the newer ones today are marked the oppsite way, with a - on one end.
Caps with a solid black line, or ring around one end tend to be "paper" caps, not electrolytic--but not always! This mark signifies the "outside foil", and is usually connected to the "ground" side. New "paper replacements" are not marked, and can be installed either way.
Electrolytic caps that are housed inside "cans", are usually marked by the post(s) sticking out in the center, AND on the outside of the can. The can markings show the value(s), and symbol(s) (a "square", "triangle", and or "half circle") showing which post is what value.
  Hope that helps--Ron Rich

Hi, Looking at recapping an amp for the first time and need some help. My concern is with identifying the pos and neg on the electrolytic caps. Some have no markings and others have a solid black line at one end.( I assume this is the neg end but would rather be safe than sorry) The amp is out of a 148 trashy. Any help would be appreciated.

Jason
