Mike,
The reversing relay is a good guess, however, it would seem that any fault
associated with the tone arm switch would keep the gripper from reversing
when you push the Clear Button. What happens when you manually cancel the
selection with the Cancel Button by the Volume Control? The Cancel Button
and Tonearm Switch are wired in parallel on the same circuit.
Staying with the K.I.S.S. method of T.S.& R., I would be suspect of
connectors and cabling.
