I had a hunch, just couldn't resist.  :-)  Anyway, since
nobody else has chimed in here yet, the first thing you need
to do if you haven't already is get a manual for your machine.
That way you can familiarize yourself with its theory of
operation, and the correct names for the components, so that
instead of asking "The record won't play - why is that?" 
You can ask "When you make a selection, the selection pin
moves but the mechanism doesn't start."  Frequently just
formulating the question you want to ask will put you
several steps closer to solving it on your own.
