I've got a Seeburg A on 78 rpm that I'm working on. Amp has been rebuilt as
has the original blackhead cartridge. I've got brand new 3 mil needles and
the speaker has been re-coned as well, but I'm not satisfied with the sound
- it sounds muffled and "scratchy". I'm convinced it's the cartridge, as I
tried another amp from a B with the same results. I have two of the repro
Thorpe/DS cartridges that I want to try, but wanted to know if anyone has
done this before and what modifications to the amp you made. Thanks in
advance,

Jim

How about an entirely different approach? With the juke in play, plug in a
separate turntable that you know is good. That way you eliminate the amp
and speaker and pretty much left with cartridge, wiring and mute switch to
deal with.
