So - - -

Hey, it's good to be posting again in here! I feel like family, almost,
with all the "lurking" I do ;-)

Getting a bit tired of "big band", on the Wurlitzer, I thought I'd look for
some of those "re-issue sets" on 78 rpm. I know they are EXPENSIVE but
curiosity urged me on. I stumbled across the following eBay listing - the
link is at the bottom - look at the pix of the labels carefully,
particularly the *times* of the songs.

The Beatles' "Twist And Shout' is listed at 2:00; however, my copy on 45 rpm
Capitol purple label lists the time as 2:32. "I Saw Her Standing There" on
the original Capitol swirl is listed at 2:50, on the "re-issue" it is only
2:28. I know 78s spin faster than 45s but these differences seems a bit
strange. Have the songs been "altered" to try to avoid royalties, as the
seller indicates were an issue? Another thing I wonder, are these
"re-issues" actual pressed records, or simply one-off cuts? Making masters
is not cheap.

And what's with these "bidders" with aster**icks in their IDs?

If anyone knows anything about this, please chime in. Heck, this would make
a good thread! Re-issue records and the people behind them. We all have
heard of the "Collectables" label, but what of the many others; "Lost Nite",
"Rhino", etc.

And I suppose the REAL reason I started this whole thing - does anyone know
of a source for good R&R 78s? Doesn't have to be Elvis or Jerry Lee Lewis,
just no music with brass or woodwind instruments PLEEZE, no songs with the
words "Dreaming" in it, and preferrably with a good drummer. Gene Krupa,
you were ahead of your time!
