The Rhino sets were clearly the best quality. I believe they used a 2
mil groove, which is a good all round compromise. The sound was also
very bright, with lots of highs. 

David, I know what you mean about having to buy some chaffe to get the
good songs. But it's great to be able to get 1960's songs that were
never issued on 78 (my fav being Louie Louie by The Kingsmen). 

I've been following the price of some 78's on E-Bay, and it seems to
keep going up and up. I'd gladly pay $300-400 for a Beatle 78! One guy
was recently selling a beat up copy for $1000 ! Common Buddy Holly's are
in the $100 range. 

This makes me wonder: is there a demand for more re-issue 78's? Seems
like a good market that someone could tap into. I had talked to Steve at
Victory about this once, and he says that the demand for 78's jukeboxes
has dried up, so no one will press any more 78's. Judging from what the
records are going for, there still seems to be a demand out there!

I've heard that some of these sets use a 1-mil stylus, like LPs, which
means you can't intermix them with "real" 78s. The problem I've had with
these sets is that, based on my musical taste anyway, you have to buy an
awful lot of chaffe to get a few pieces of wheat.  You can find a lot of
pre-1959 rock on 78s if you keep looking and don't mind paying for the
song you want (which isn't too bad compared with paying for songs you
don't want). Now, if you want the Beatles in your 78 machine, better
head to India and be prepared to spend $300-400 each for the Parlophone
78 pressings issued in that market - if you can find any.
