Jeff I have to agree with you.? I know people can do what ever they want to a jukebox, even convert to cd if they wish, (groan), but there is something magical about a Seeburg R.? Of course I am biased, My first jukebox ever was a Seeburg R, very original out of Burley Idaho.? I got hooked. . .Today, about 20 years and 50 jukes later, I still have a very original R in my shop that I listen to weekly.? Maybe its the chrome, the curves, the orange buttons, or the burl, I am not sure what I like the most.?? BUT I do feel it is the best design jukebox Seeburg ever made.? The 57 Chevy Bel-Air of jukes!

Mike glad you decided against changing your R. I've got one also, all
original it's been playing for the 25 years I've had it and played another
15 for the previous owner. Periodic lube and every now and then some minor
adjustments. It needs a cap job and the grill cloth replaced. I'll get to it
some day, but the enjoyment of a 50+ year old box still plugging along far
outweighs my desire to work on it.
You can get animated Seeburgs if you go a little earlier, I've got a
trashcan with the dome animation, one of these days I'll stumble across a
door kit priced reasonably. I've got the same opinion on it as the R. The
trashcan belonged to my dad, he got it in the early 50's for his basement
hangout. I was the record changer and Stroh's fetcher so I've know the juke
for almost 60 years, had to stand on a stool to swap out records.
