[Jukebox-list] Juke Box Jig?

Thanks for your note Jackie.
I'll bet you're bound to have some success with Butterfield or Durfee's (I've always found Bill to be a little more reasonable in his prices!). Who knows, perhaps someone on this list has a dome for a W1650 they'd like to sell?
I work in a claims department, and have often dealt with car glass shops in the past. I don't think they could create a curved piece of glass like this. Perhaps a glass shop? In the end you'd probably pay as much or more than for an original one, so I think that you should try to find it used.
Your advice to my girlfriend is good, and I'll pass your note onto her. I like your suggestion of having songs that SHE likes in one of the boxes. Perhaps that's the secret!
I'd be pushing my luck though to have her help me clean one of these (I know her limit).
You're aunt sounds like she was a very prolific recording artist. Have you any way of finding out which records she recorded on, so that you can collect as many as possible?
Looking forward to seeing more 1650 pictures!
Take care,
Mike
P.s. Have you ever considered installing an animation unit in it? Oh wait a minute, we've been through that discussion here before! Ha ha

Mike, where the heck do I find Dome Glass for the 1650? VG doesn't have it and I've been watching ebay and haven't seen anything, however I realize it could come up at any time. I haven't emailed Butterfield (I will do that
next) to see if he has anything, also Durfee. Seems the Dome Glass is getting harder to find and I don't know if I brought the frame to a car glass shop if they could do it for me. Have you ever tried that? I agree it would look so much better than Plexiglas but guess that would be better than nothing. I think I can create the upper back, it won't be totally original but I am not into restoring this, only refurbishing and keeping it from the dump.
Thanks for all the kind words, I think it was an eye opener for my NC family to see it transform. I am like you....... I'd rather have a box ready for the dump and save it than buy a perfect machine. (not to mention it's
cheaper) There is a lot to be said for the hard work and broken fingernails you get in the process. Teaching Piano, my nails have always been short anyway so it's not such a sacrifice for me, lol
I can understand your girlfriends questions, it does seem odd for us Jukebox lovers to need more than one Jukebox. I never considered it until I got the Statesman working and had so many great records I wanted to hear. Not to mention I needed something on the lower level of the house. They each have their charm and challenge. I really don't have a "favorite", I like them all for different reasons, kinda like kids! I will say the Seeburg seems easier for me to understand the operation but some of the Wurlitzer's are really beautiful. Be patient, your girlfriend will come around to your thinking. Make sure all HER favorite songs are in at least one of the Jukeboxes and have her help you work on them, we have great fun learning together.
As far as my Aunt, she was one of several groups, "Girlfriends Trio", "Stewart Sisters", "Bobby Tucker Singers", Ray Charles Singers" and the "Sunshine Girls". She worked with Rudy Vallee for many years. Sinatra, Bing, Como and many others. I have 3 Glass Studio Recordings of her's from
1931 and 1944 & 45. Very interesting pressings on glass. The Stewart Sisters were first to introduce "On the Good Ship Lollipop" on the Rudy Vallee Radio Hour.

Wow, that's interesting, and it's great you got a copy of the record (was it
the Ray Charles singers as backup? I can't remember off hand)
Jackie, I wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed looking at the photos of
your latest acquistion. I have to say that you certainly should be commended
for takeing on such a project (and managing to get the whole family involved
too... That in itself is a real accomplishment).
When I got my W500 it was in worse shape, with the vaneer peeling off, and
all kings of parts missing. I thought to myself 'what have I gotten into'?
But once you start the cleaning and disassembly, you can slowly see some of
the original beauty coming back. To me, I'd much rather get a dirty
neglected box, and bring it back to life, than just get one that's all
restored.
My girlfriend thinks I'm obsessive for having 6 boxes. I passed on your
e-mail to her, so that she can see there are other men and women out there
with the same passion. Perhaps you'll help her 'see the light'. (ha ha, pun
intended)
I look forward to seeing your updated pictures. And to do it justice, you
HAVE to get a glass dome!
Mike

Hi Mike,
the Perry Como - "Jukebox Baby" my Aunt is one of the back-up singers on
that first recording and a friend of mine gave me a copy when I got the
Trashcan up and running! I love it. Thanks for the suggestions, Jackie

Can't say I heard that one Jackie.
Have you got a copy of Perry Como's "Jukebox Baby"? It's the flip side
of "Hot Diggity, Dog Diggity" (what a title!) from 1956. It's quite a
good song, especially considering it's from Mr Como.
And of course "Jukebox Saturday Night" by Glenn Miller or the Modenaires
is also good. Both should be relatively easy to find on 78.

Good morning,
All the talk I missed about the 78's over the weekend got me interested
in looking at ebay for some records. I found and purchased this record,
Herb & Kay - "Juke Box Jig" anyone ever heard of this before? I did
some searching on the internet and didn't come up with much. I am
excited about listening to it, it would be fun to have a "Jukebox" Title
in each Jukebox. So far I only have 3 different songs.
I also found Elvis, "Love Me Tender" for a good price in great
condition. I agree, the R&R's in good shape are very hard to come by
for a reasonable price. I did see some out there but pricey. I bought
2 Bill Haley's over the Christmas Holiday but paid more than I should
have. I love the R&R in the Trashcan as much as the Big Band/Swing and
Blues. They all sound so good with the deep bass.
Jackie
