Jackie,
Look at page 16 of my mech book for pictures of the different cartridges and needles. Also look at the "notes" N-1 thru P-5 on page 50/51.
A "Yellow cartridge" was never an original Seeburg part. Yellow "needles", (the needle itself was not yellow, but the plastic it's mounted on was yellow), however, were issued twice. The first ones are very rare, and were diamond tipped with a "1 mill" point and for use with the original mono "Red Head" (#246816) cartridge, as an option . Starting with the SS-160 model, all "160 selection" machines were equipped with "Yellow Stereo Diamond Needles" (once again, the plastic was yellow).
As for the tip being "blunt"---Well it IS called a "needle"---

  Hi,
I just got another call from my friend in Florida, he was asking about the needle on the R. He says his cartridge is yellow and the needles are yellow. His question was, "are the needles supposed to be blunt?" His sound quality is bad and the amp was rebuilt before they delivered it to him. He said they do not have a shart tip at all. Any comments?\
Jackie
