There is a fairly easy fix to this: Trip the test button on the GFI
outlet. Find all of the downstream outlets that are protected by it.
Buy that many GFI outets at your local Menards, Home Depot, Lowes,
etc., plus whatever exterior gaskets / face plates / etc. you need to
fit these in the other positions.

Be aware that my experience is some GFIs are cheap, but in some cases
you get what you pay for (test button no longer trips it after a year,
etc.).

Turn off the supply breaker, replace all the downstream outlets with
their own GFI, and pull out the original GFI. On the back of that
original GFI, there's a connection to feed the protected downstream
outlets. Since they all now have their own protection, you can
connect them directly to the incomming supply with a couple of
pigtails and wire nuts.

BTW, GFI breakers are (were?) usually much more expensive than
outlets -- although I haven't checked lately.

Oh, and YMMV, don't try this at home, get a licensed electrician,
don't expect to hold me responsible for your work.

else do you not leave a child behind unless you hold everyone else
