[Jukebox-list] Rock-Ola 445 does not remove the record

Ron,
Oh I agree that they're supposed to be dry (Rowe gripper bow assy). I should
have made a distinction between lubed and cleaned. I sorta consider gummed
up as the same problem whether it's from old grease/oil or from
nicotine/dust/etc. The only real difference is whether you lube it or not
after you clean it. Over the years I have noticed that although it's not set
in concrete, in absence of an accurate lube chart, a good rule of thumb is
that modern equipment requires lubrication at points of metal on metal or
metal on plastic (I use the word plastic loosely meaning synthetics of
various kinds) moving contact points. Wherever the manufacturer has opted
for plastic on plastic, usually the parts are slick enough that no lube is
required and adding it just invites troublesome buildup. I've gotten by in a
hurry in a customer's busy location with customers ready to drink elsewhere
because of an out of order jukebox by a shot of WD40 but I followed it up by
disassembly and cleaning, leaving it dry the next day. Once though, a
customer decided he'd paid me enough for my 11pm call and figured I was
trying to gouge him suggesting a proper repair later. To the best of my
knowledge, that shot of WD40 and a little working back and forth is still
holding up for him and it's been over a year. Kinda pisses me off because
I'm sure by now he's convinced I was yanking him around. He's the kinda guy
who will try to fix future problems with a shot of WD40 and make things
worse, so it'll come out in the wash. He'll shoot WD40 on the player. I
can't wait......hehehe.
