Hi Tom,
Other persons may dis-agree, but I would NEVER lay any jukebox on it's back, for any reason, unless it was PROPERLY "bolted down for shipment". In the case of a Seeburg, some will suggest that the three or four (depending on model) tie down bolts should be tightened, and that is all you need do, beside making sure that ALL the doors are locked, and that the locks will hold. I dis-agree, as I have seen the mechanisms ruined doing just that. The proper way is to insert spacers under the base, then tighten the bolts down. Next, in my opinion, it necessary to install the two shipping bolts, that bind the carriage to the base frame. If this can not be done, I strongly suggest that the whole mechanism be removed prior to laying it down. This can be done in a few moments, by (on a "B") opening the lower rear door, then opening the upper rear door (which is held by a "window type latch" on each side). Once that's done, you will need to remove the metal clamp,
holding the wire on the left hand slide. Then unplug all of the cables going to the mechanism. Next, you will need to remove the two pins, that go through the wood. They are held in place by "E" washers. Slide the mech to the rear enough to pull the front cable through the hole, and tuck all the wires out of the way. Then slide the whole thing out. Be sure that the mechanism is in such a position that it will clear the mirrors, on the way out.
As for books, I would suggest a service manual, and (humbly), my Seeburg Mechanism Guide(which contains the above instructions).
