I'm going to purchase a three-prong extension cord at Home Depot (along with some flourescent bulbs... 28 inch, right? Mine are missing) and if memory serves, aren't there three wires in these heavy-duty cords?? And only two wires connect to the power supply, right? What do I do with the third wire? Will I able to determine which two wires connect to the box? And as the juke came to me without a back door and I've been putting a Frankenstein together, where does the cord lead out of the back of the machine? There is no "power cord hole" in this back door.
Lower right when facing the back of the jukebox, there should be a notch
in the door through which the power cord (and remote volume control, if
wired) cords pass.
Seeburgs of this vintage weren't usually grounded.
The power cord usually went to a surface-mounted outlet mounted on the
inner side wall of the juke opposite of the coin gear. The selection
receiver has a short power cord that plugs into it.
Replacing with a three-wire grounding cord isn't recommended unless you
take a lot of care to connect ALL of the "potentially touchable" metal
parts to it, not usually practical.
A good alternative is to get a two-wire cord, a small electrical box and
a GFI outlet, cover plate, and strain relief. Screw the outlet box to
the inside wall in place of the old surface-mount outlet. Don't use
long screws that will protrude through the wall! Mount the GFI inside
the box in jukebox, run the power cord through the notch in the bottom
of the back door.
There should be a cable clamp near where the cord exits to keep it from
getting pinched in the door. Don't put the clamp right up tight to the
opening, but about two inches back. This way you can open the back door
and stow the power cord inside for transport.
