I did as you suggested I completely removed the phonograph unit and cleaned
and degreased the entire unit. I then ordered and replaced the turntable
drive grommets, installed the motor plug and installed
a new coupler (since the one on the unit broke in two). I have now relubed
the components (per the manual) and have reinstalled the record carrier and
the phonograph mechanism.
I have having the following issues:
How do I correct the no "signal to play"?
Further observation of the unit resulting in discovering that if I select
B,D,F,H,K,M,P,R,T,V, with any number, the unit will scan to that record and
then selects the record, loads it and when the tone arm moves over and the
needle touches the record it rejects the record and scans to the next selection.
As apposed to when I select A,C,E,G,J,L,N,Q,S,U, with any number, the unit
scans to that record and then selects that record and loads it and the
turntable immediately stalls. If I assist the turntable, it returns the record and
then goes to the next selection.
I removed the Mute Squelch plug from the Amp and selected a record from the
first set (B,D,F + number etc). It went to that selection and then selects
the record, loads it and when the tone arm mover over the needle touches the
record it rejects the record and scans to the next selection.
I have gotten the following advise:
There's no "signal to play". If it's energized, with the amp mute plug out,
the contacts on the front of the mech are mis-adjusted. If, it wants to put
the record back while you are holding the detent lever down, it's a mechanical
problem--you may have two problems.
Adjust the switches as per spec. Either trouble shoot the 45TASU-2, or send
it to me for repair.
Since you have restored a few of these units, where would you suggest I
start...any direction would be of great assistance...since I do have the manual,
if you can refer me to a section or page I can go from there.
Sorry to be so dense, but what specific switches should I start with? As to
the jargon what is the 45TASU-2? I would consider sending the unit to Ron (or
have it fixed locally), but the reason I bought this was to learn how they
operate and be able to fix them if I happen to buy more.
Thank you,
Roy

The same coupler is used on all Seeburg 45 machines. Simply called a motor
coupler it is available from Victory Glass and A1 Jukebox to name 2
suppliers. It's available from other repro jukebox parts houses also.
While you're at it order the motor support plug since the mid 60s boxes left
it off and it will cause
slow speed issues on 45 sometimes from the motor sagging and putting extra
friction on the worm shaft bearing. Also order the auto speed rebuild kit.The
big
oil filled cap in the autospeed unit especially should be replaced. If it
ain't bad now it will fail. I have a PFEAU Discoteque,LPC1,LPC480, and a SS
160
that I have redone and they all have 0 speed issues on 45 because I did what
I
have told you.
Of course I also took the motors apart and cleaned the shafts and used
plenty of oil in those oil tubes.
