The trim is anodized from factory. And aluminum oxide is about the hardest
material there is.
If you want to just clean it, use steel wool. If there are scratches you
wish to make disappear, there is no way you can polish them as they are. You
need to remove the oxide first. This can be done with coarse sand paper and
a lot of elbow grease. When the oxide is finally gone, the soft aluminum is
easy to polish but you should use a wheel to get a good result.
This is a dirty job I really prefer handing to the professionals and pay to
have done.
